Attorney Rebecca E. Rowland
I am a licensed attorney dedicated to family law in Harris and Fort Bend Counties. I have handled divorce, child support, paternity, suits affecting the parent-child relationship, modifications, child custody, CPS, guardianship, probate, termination and adoptions, and termination of paternal rights cases. I have been involved with over 150 family cases and have volunteered to help pro se litigants in over 200 cases, by either advising the party what to expect in court and how to prepare or handling the case pro bono.
I am a single mother of 3 young men. I worked full time and was a single parent throughout law school. I have had to deal with my own family law matters over the years and know what its like both emotionally and legally.
My father, Roy E. Rowland, was an attorney in Houston for over 30 years concentrating on family, injury, and criminal cases. I worked with him in his law practice for more than 10 years. We had planned for me to take over his firm once I became licensed in Texas. While in law school my father passed away, his firm was disbanded, and his clients were transferred to other attorneys. I loved working with my father and he taught me the most important thing about being an attorney is that we are here first to provide guidance and protection to our clients with their legal issues. I opened this firm to follow in my father's footsteps in protecting my clients with the legal issues they face. My fondest memories of my father were when we would talk about case strategies and how much joy he found helping children and families.
I wanted to be an attorney since I was seven years old. I remember my father talking to me as if I was a law student. He would teach me the difference between facts that you can prove (evidence) and hearsay which is inadmissible. The one question he would always ask when I would tell him something I learned was "do you know or do you think you know". In other words, was I repeating something someone told me or did I witness it myself. If someone told me it was hearsay and I would only think I knew.
After I started college, my youngest son became ill and I was forced to drop a few semesters. When the doctors told me he would have to wait about 5 years before it was safe to perform surgery to correct his condition, I temporarily suspended my education. When I went back to school, I had lost credit for approximately 2 years of classes. I had to start over. I completed my bachelors degree in 3 years and earned a double major in both Finance and Risk Management & Insurance from the University of Houston. I then went to South Texas College of Law - Houston. While attending South Texas College of Law - Houston received the top grade in my Advanced Family Law class. I participated in the Advance Family Law Clinic and the Juvenile Law Clinic at South Texas College of Law - Houston, Randall Sorrels Legal Clinic.
I have over 20 years of combined experience working with business law, human resources, family law, insurance cases as an insurance adjuster, paralegal in various law firms, and as a risk and safety manager for a national corporation. I have extensive experience with corporate compliance related to OSHA, employment practices, insurance, and litigation management. I hold multiple adjuster licenses across the U.S. and I am a qualified OSHA trainer.
I have a history of getting results from hard work and dedication and will do the same for you.
